This is another great option for a Short Break. A versatile cruise with a lock light river section and several electric locks, which takes a big chunk of the lockwheeling off your shoulders. You’ll leave the bustling centre of Leeds and cruise along the Aire and Calder Navigation towards Castlefield Junction. On the way, nature lovers will thoroughly enjoy the old coal mines, now turned into a thriving nature reserve. The trails that lead through the reserve are a great opportunity to stretch your legs before you carry on with your canal journey. At Castlefield Junction, turn right onto the Wakefield branch. The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield is another great attraction on the way which is well worth a visit. Fancy a trip to the famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park? If you’ve got a bit of extra time on your hands, you can take a short taxi to visit this truly incredible place. Soon, you’ll reach the turning point of your cruise, Horbury Bridge. There are plenty of pubs along the way to replenish your energy levels until you are back in Leeds once again.
